A community garden is more than a place to grow vegetables and flowers—it’s a place where friends and neighbors reconnect with the natural world.  It’s a living classroom where people of all ages come together to experience the rhythms of the seasons, the joy of growing plants from seed, and the rewards of being part of the nature’s cycle of renewal.  It’s a place where we can grow in tandem with the plants that we cultivate.

Through hands-on workshops, youth programs, and informal conversations among garden beds, ECI’s nurtures practical skills like composting, seed saving, and sustainable growing, while also cultivating curiosity, responsibility, and respect for the natural world.

As a center for learning and teaching, the Heritage Garden connects generations and cultures through the universal language of growing food. Experienced gardeners mentor beginners, children discover where their food comes from, and community members share traditions, recipes, and stories. In tending the soil together, we strengthen not only plants but also relationships—fostering resilience, stewardship, and a deeper understanding of how caring for the earth helps us care for one another.
